Jok Prince Chinese Congee of Bang Rak
.
It’s only appropriate that we start our trip in this district of love. Bang Rak is the most popular choice when the residents of Bangkok want to register their marriages, simply because the word “rak” in Thai means love. And having a delicious breakfast is also very important!

The congee at Jok Prince has been satisfying customers’ tummies for more than half a century. There’s always a line of locals at this Michelin Bib Gourmand-listed shop waiting patiently to eat the signature smoky flavoured congee cooked over charcoal. You can choose various toppings; such as, eggs and minced pork balls.

Neilson Hays Library

The library is about a 10-minute walk from the Hindu temple.

Designed by Italian architect Mario Tamagno, who was also responsible for the prestigious Ananda Samakhom Throne Hall, this elegant neo-classical building dates back to 1922 and is the oldest English-language library in the country.

The Library houses many rare book collections. A donation of 100 Baht is required per person from non-members using the library’s facilities.

The Library started life as the Bangkok Ladies’ Library Association in 1869 with no permanent address. It was housed in various private homes and later in a chapel.

Jennie Neilson Hays, a Danish protestant missionary, was an active board member of the organisation for 20 years, serving as its president 3 times. American physician Dr. Hays, Chief of the Royal Thai Navy Hospital and the first professor of medicine of Siriraj hospital, commissioned a new library to be built in his wife’s memory. The library was later renamed after the couple.

The building was awarded the status of “Historic Landmark” in 1986 by the Association of Siamese Architects.

A café called “Palam Palam Bangkok” within its grounds is also an ideal place to relax and get away from the hectic traffic outside.

House of Illumination

If you want to discover what a digital art exhibition looks like, visit the House of Illumination, a light installation spread over 1,800 sq.m. at CentralWorld.

You’ll have a great time taking pictures and being part of the displays, or even creating your own piece of art.

The space is divided into 8 rooms featuring various techniques; such as, projection mapping, LED strip, laser heads and 3D LED Pixel.

In the “From Forest to Space” room, simply shine the light on any animal picture, and it will come to life and greet you. There is also a pool of balls that you can use to fight an alien. And when you are in the Boundless Room, the projection mapping technique will surround you with changing colours. It’s a fun and creative exhibition that engages and inspire visitors.

The exhibition will run until October 2022, with the concept changing every 3 months.

Dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya River

A dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya River is the finale of the trip. Spending time with your loved one while sailing slowly along the river in the evening is a wonderful experience and one we highly recommend.

The cruise usually takes around 2 hours and passes numerous illuminated landmarks of Bangkok, including Wat Arun, Wat Phra Kaeo, the Holy Rosary Church, and Rama VIII Bridge. It’s the perfect time to pop the question!

There are many cruise operators to choose and you can get on the boat at Asiatique the riverfront pier, River City pier and Icon Siam pier.
